Harry Roberts Drawings Displayed in Birr Castle, Ireland (October 2009)

by David Samuel

The International Skysketchers Exhibition, was held at Birr Castle in Ireland in September 2009 in honour of the International Year of Astronomy 2009. Sketches by many people from several countries around the world were displayed at the exhibition. Harry Roberts - one of our members - was requested to submit some of his sketches to be displayed at the exhibition. Two of his sketches were selected to be displayed. One of those sketches is displayed below.

Birr Castle was the home of the third Earl of Rosse who during the 1840's built a 72 inch (1.83 metre) reflecting telescope which at the time was the largest telescope in the world and remained so for about three quarters of a century.
